Fairfield Police: Woman Stole Perishables and Multiple Mucinex Bottles FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield woman who attempted to steal perishable food and six bottles of Mucinex from a town supermarket was arrested Friday, police said. Loss prevention staff at the Villa Avenue Stop & Shop said Johanna Landaeta, 37, of Benton Street, concealed items in a reusable grocery bag and attempted to walk out of the store around 3:30 p.m., police said. The groceries totaled $63.54. Landaeta was released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 22.

Car With No Steering Wheel, Battery Stolen In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Vermont Avenue man reported his car stolen Saturday — despite the fact that the car had a flat tire and no steering wheel or battery, police said. The man said he believes his 1997 black, two-door Honda Civic, which was unlocked outside his home, was stolen around 2 a.m. He told police the car’s removable steering wheel and battery were not in the car and the right rear tire was flat. He also said the word “Darko” is stenciled on the car left rear tire. Th owner valued the car at $5,000 because of its unusual features, police said.

Fairfield Police: Thrill-Seeking Liquor Thief Nabbed While Trespassing FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield man who told police “the thrill” of stealing bottles of liquor from shops in town “outweighed the risk of getting caught” was arrested on an outstanding warrant for three incidents Monday, police said. Timothy Dutter, 22, of Cider Mill Lane, was charged with three counts of sixth-degree larceny for the three incidents in 2015, police said. Fairfield Police: Woman Attempting To Cash Bad Check Leaves ID Behind FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Bridgeport woman was arrested after she tried to cash two fake checks totaling nearly $2,000 at a local supermarket, police said. Jessica Rios, 31, of St. Stephens Road, was charged with fifth-degree larceny and second-degree forgery around 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said. The charges stem from two incidents in the fall of 2014. In October, a service desk clerk at the Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue chased a check for $954 made out to Rios, police said. Police: Fairfield Man Faces Strangulation Charge In Early Morning Assault FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield man was arrested on assault charges early Saturday after an argument with a woman turned physical, police said. Matthew Hernandez, 32, of Fiske Street, was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, police said.
