WESTPORT, Conn. Staples High School student Marcus Russi came in eighth overall and second among Connecticut finishers Saturday in the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Burlington, Vt. Russi completed the sprint distance triathlon in 1:10.26.
Russi, who also competes for the Staples swim team, finished the half-mile swim in 10:52. He completed the 12.4-mile bike ride in 37:26 and the 5K run in 20:33. Earlier this summer, Russi won his age group in the Trifitness Seaside Sprint Triathlon and finished second in his age group at the Mossman Sprint Triathlon in Norwalk.
He also competed earlier this month in the U.S. Junior Youth National Championships and finished 35th out of 70 athletes. His time of 60:31 at the Sprint triathlon distance was a personal best.
