Westport Pitchers Combine On Little League No-Hitter

WESTPORT,  Conn. – Westport’s Harry Azadian pitched a perfect game for four innings and teammate Chris Drbal followed with more no-hit innings Thursday in the team’s 1-0 win over Trumbull American in the District 2 Little League 11-year-old tournament.

Westport finished pool play 5-1, and will play undefeated Fairfield National for the district title Saturday at Unity Park in Trumbull. Fairfield National handed Westport its only loss in the first game of the tournament.

Azadian retired all 12 batters he faced before being lifted when he reached 35 pitches. Drbal finished up, walking two and hitting a batter. Trumbull American had two on and one out in the sixth, but Drbal got the last two outs. Azadian made a nice play to get a force at third, and right fielder Alec Burns made a leaping catch to take a hit away from Trumbull’s Evan Werner.

Under Little League rules, a player must take an extra day of rest after 35 pitches. By removing Azadian after 35 pitches, manager Tim Rogers will have both pitchers available for Saturday's game.

Westport managed little offensively but scratched out a run in the fourth on an RBI double by Max Popken, which scored Drbal.

Westport won the District 2 tournament last year as 10-year-olds. The 11-year-old All-Stars are the only remaining Westport team alive in district play.
