Westport Coach Praises Soccer Association For Tackling Homophobia

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Dan Woog, head coach of the Staples High School boys soccer team in Westport, praises the National Soccer Coaches Association for its anti-homophobia initiative in a blog post for OutSports, a part of SB Nation.

Woog, who is openly gay and has served as head coach of the Staples boys soccer team for more than 20 years, is the chairman of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America LGBT Task Force.

In the post, Woog tells the story of how he became involved in including LGBTQ issues in the NSCAA's mission statement.

Woog has led Staples to six state title matches, winning in 1993 and 2009. He is a former National Youth Coach of the Year.
