Weston 8th-Grade Football Team Flying High

WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Youth Football eighth-grade football team has emerged as a force in its first season in the Fairfield County Football League.

Weston has rolled to a 3-0 start after Sunday's 20-7 win over the Fairfield Wildcats. Weston is among four teams in the eighth-grade still unbeaten in the league.

Buoyed by its strong running attack, Weston built a 20-0 lead in the third quarter. Weston rushed for 225 yards behind an offensive line that included Peter Achar, Jackson Aguas, Dom Decaro, Nate Jacobson, Peter Jegan, Jon Murphy, Michael Otworth, Brandon Postlethwaite, Steven Tyler, and Robbie Waltzman. Alex Fruhbeis, Jason Lawrence, George Goetz and Elijah Hutchinson excelled running the football.

Weston’s defense, which has surrendered just four touchdowns in three games, bottled up Fairfield. Captain Zach Spencer had numerous tackles and Konrad Freitag, Brendan Kirk, Sal Vento, Nicholas Lange, Bobby Lummis, Matthew Oakes, and Gavin Wyrnn all had strong defensive days as well.

Weston is one of four teams still undefeated in the league. It hosts New Canaan Black on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. at Weston High School.
