Staples Picked Again for 'Game of the Week'

WESTPORT, Conn. ? Just three weeks into the football season, Staples is looking like a team to beat in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Behind its trademark rock-solid defense and breakout running back Joey Zelkowitz, the Wreckers are one of the featured teams in Main Street Connect's "Game of the Week" for the second time this season.

Staples travels to Brien McMahon High School Saturday at 7 p.m. for the second year in a row. Last season, the Senators took Staples to the wire. The Wreckers held off a last-gasp drive by McMahon to eke out a 21-13 win.

In Main Street Connect's "FCIAC Football Fast Five," featured analyst Kevin Jones picks Staples to win ? but with a warning about McMahon.

"[McMahon] is like a lion backed up in a cage," Jones said. "You're going to see all the trick plays and everything you can imagine coming from the players and coaches, and that makes them very dangerous for Staples. The Wreckers need to go out and play their game."

Staples is coming off a 48-8 blowout of Bridgeport Central. The Wreckers took to the air, as Jack Massie connected with Nick Kelly for three touchdowns. James Frusciante intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble on defense, then caught a long bomb for a touchdown.

The Wreckers (2-0) take on McMahon (1-1) at Jack Casagrande Field. Kevin Jones and "Fast Five" host Eric Gendron will recap the game next week.
