Bunnell Nips Weston Baseball in Pitchers' Duel

WESTON, Conn. – Baseball fans who like pitchers' duels were satisfied with the Weston-Bunnell game Wednesday night, but Weston High fans were dissatisfied with the final score – 2-0 for the Bulldogs.

Trojan junior pitcher Charles Ameer was outdueled by Bunnell freshman Ronnie Rosomondo, who came into the game with a 1-0 record and making just the second start of his career. It was memorable as he recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed only two hits against a Weston team that didn’t come close to scoring.

“We took a bunch of third strikes,” Weston Coach Frank Fedeli said. “We've got to make a better effort.”

Ameer struck out eight and limited Bunnell to four hits, but one of them was a triple, which led to Bunnell's first run.

“Give him credit, he hit it deep,” Fedeli said. “They hit it, and we didn’t. They did what they needed to do.”

The loss drops Weston to 4-3, 2-1 in South-West Conference league play. Bunnell is 3-4, 2-0 in the league.

Weston hosts Pomperaug at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

“We’ll come back,” Fedeli said. “We’ve got to put the ball in play.”
