Westport's Staples High Violinist To Play In All­-National Honor Orchestra

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Senior violinist Katherine Zhou has been selected to the first violin section of the 2013 National Association for Music Education All­-National Honor Orchestra, the Westport Staples High School Music Department announced.

The All-­National Orchestra is the most musically talented and skilled high school students from around the United States and will be conducted by Miriam Burns of the New York Philharmonic.

Zhou will perform with the group at a gala concert in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 30. 

Zhou is concertmaster of the Staples Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras, Norwalk Youth Symphony, and CT Western Region Orchestra, and has been a member of the CT All­State Orchestra and All­Eastern US NAfME Honors Orchestra. She has performed as a soloist at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, performed at Tanglewood, Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, throughout Europe, and has won several awards including the Musical Club of Hartford High School String Competition, the American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition and the American Protege International Concerto Competition.
