The designation recognizes communities committed to making high quality music education programs accessible to all students as part of the core curriculum, according to the NAMM Foundation website.
Approximately 2,000 school districts nationwide participated in the "Best Communities" survey. Of those, 307 won the designation, according to the NAMM Foundation.
Other towns in the state to receive the “Best Communities” designation include Bethel, Canton, Cheshire, Glastonbury, Newtown and Weston.
This Wednesday, over 300 Westport students will perform in the annual Westport Band Festival at Staples High School. The program will feature the combined seventh- and eighth-grade bands of Coleytown and Bedford Middle Schools, and the combined Staples High School bands.
The concert is free and open to all. No tickets are required for admission. The one-hour event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Staples High School gym, 70 North Ave.
