WESTPORT, Conn. The following letter was submitted by Westport resident Elaine Whitney, a Democrat on the Board of Education.
I have served with Mark Mathias on the Board of Education for almost three years, and I closely observed his work on the board for several years before that. Westport is fortunate that he has chosen to run for a third term.
Mark is an independent thinker. He is willing to ask tough questions in order to elucidate and understand the issues. When he feels it is needed, he is willing to disagree with the superintendent or his colleagues, though always in a constructive and respectful manner. Mark is a person of integrity and truly strives to make decisions that are in the best interests of our students.
In addition, Mark is a technology professional with over 30 years of experience in that field. He also serves on the district's Strategic Technology Committee. This expertise allows Mark to make important contributions to the work of the board as we continuously seek new ways to integrate technology into the curriculum and as we pursue the Westport Education 2025 initiative.
Please join me on Nov. 8 in voting for Mark Mathias to continue his service on the Board of Education.
