Westport Voters Head To Polls To Choose State, Federal Reps

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in races for the State General Assembly, as well as races for governor and Congress.

The town of Westport includes two state Senate districts and two state House of Representatives districts. Click here to see which district you live in, as well as where to vote.

In State House District 136, Democratic incumbent Jonathan Steinberg is running against Republican challenger Brandi Briggs.

In State House District 143, Republican incumbent Gail Lavielle is facing Democratic challenger Keith Rodgerson. This district also includes parts of Wilton and Norwalk.

In State Senate District 26, Republican incumbent Toni Boucher is facing Democratic challenger Philip Sharlach. This district also includes parts of New Canaan, Redding, Bethel, Ridgefield and Weston.

In State Senate District 28, Republican Tony Hwang is facing Democrat Kim Fawcett to fill the seat currently held by Republican John McKinney, who is not seeking re-election. This district also includes Easton, Weston, Fairfield and Newtown.

Republican Probate Judge Lisa Wexler is running unopposed for re-election. The probate district also includes Weston.

Democratic Registrar of Voters Marla Cowden and Republican Registrar of Voters Kevin White are both seeking re-election this year.

Westport voters will be asked one question on the ballot: Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to remove restrictions concerning absentee ballots and to permit a person to vote without appearing at a polling place on the day of an election?

In the race for the 4th District of the U.S. House of Representatives, Westport voters will be asked to choose between Democratic incumbent Jim Himes and Republican challenger Dan Debicella. Himes, a Greenwich resident, has served three terms in Congress. Debicella is a Shelton businessman who previously served in the State Senate. The two previously ran against each other in 2010.

In the governor’s race, Westport voters will join others statewide in choosing between Democratic incumbent Dannel P. Malloy and Republican challenger Tom Foley. Other state races on the ballot include lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer, comptroller and attorney general.
