Hillary for America and the Democratic National Convention Committee announced a list of elected officials who will address the convention. The party will confirm Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee at the convention, and she will take on Republican nominee Donald Trump in the November election.

Some of the other speakers from the New York/New England region are Senator Cory Booker (New Jersey); Congressman Joseph Crowley (New York); Governor Andrew Cuomo (New York); New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio; Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (New York); Congresswoman Nita Lowey (New York); Senator Chuck Schumer (New York) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts).

Murphy, 42, has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013. He is a former representative for Connecticut's 5th Congressional District, where he served from 2007 to 2013.

Murphy raised his national profile extensively in June when he led a 15-hour filibuster on gun control. Murphy's filibuster came shortly after shootings in Orlando, Fla., where 49 people were killed by a lone gunman at a gay nightclub.

Murphy's other main interests are health care reform and foreign policy.
