Westport Police Seek Wedding Gift Thief

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport police have released surveillance photos of a man who stole gifts from a wedding reception Saturday evening, Oct. 11.

The suspect was seen talking on his cellphone in the lobby of the Longshore Inn before stealing the gift cards, Westport police said.

The incident occurred at the Longshore Inn about 7 p.m. Saturday. Police said the suspect posed as a guest at the reception or the hotel and was seen loitering in the lobby talking on his cellphone. He then grabbed a birdcage containing gift cards and fled on foot from the building.

Police set up a perimeter around the Longshore Inn and searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 unit from Norwalk. Police found the empty birdcage and are working to determine the identity of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male between 25 and 35 years old. He was clean-shaven with close-cropped, light brown hair, police said. He was wearing gray slacks, a white or light gray shirt and a white undershirt.
