William Boland, 52, was charged with evading responsibility, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, interfering with an officer/investigation and second-degree false statement in connection with the Jan. 23 incident.

A witness saw Boland drive into the front of the Post Road West restaurant, leave the vehicle then get back in and drive away, police said. The witness reported the license plate number to responding officers and later identified Boland in a photograph lineup as the individual who fled the scene, police said.

Boland was arrested on a warrant at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 5 at a Main Street address.

He wrote and signed a sworn statement denying he was the operator of the vehicle involved in the crash. He posted $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court in Norwalk on Feb. 16.
