The accident occurred between Exits 17 and 18 at 5:30 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin said. At the scene, firefighters found a Ford sedan resting on its roof and a Chevrolet pickup truck on its side, Conklin said.

The occupants of both vehicles had gotten out of the vehicles on their own before fire officials arrived, he said.

The two patients were taken to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS for further evaluation.

Firefighters remained on the scene until both vehicles had been towed away on flatbed trucks.
