Top Stories 2012: Fratricide Suspect Kills Self In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – With 2012 coming to an end, The Westport Daily Voice is looking back at some of the year's biggest stories.

On Oct. 8, a Woodbridge man who police said fatally shot his brother in New Haven, committed suicide in his parents’ Rustic Lane home in Westport.

Westport police received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. from the parents of Daniel Shwisha, who reported that he shot himself. Shwisha, 47, had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:13 a.m., police said.

Less than an hour before shooting himself, police said, Shwisha shot and killed his 45-year-old brother, Gordon, in the parking lot of Electrix, an industrial lighting wholesaler in New Haven. Gordon Shwisha, a Fairfield resident who also spelled his last name Swisha, owned Electrix, according to his obituary. He was found shot several times inside his Jeep, police said.

Both Gordon and Daniel were graduates of Staples High School.
