Two men were shot on the afternoon of Saturday, March 18, at the rear of 201 Bretton St., and Gregory Francilme, 18, died of his injuries at St. Vincent's Medical Center, police said.

Bridgeport Homicide detectives quickly developed leads in the case, and with the assistance of the Waterbury Police Department, a suspect was taken into custody that night, police said.

Detectives interviewed Tikhari Morton, who admitted to shooting both males on Bretton Street, police said.

Morton was held in Waterbury in connection with charges there, and Bridgeport detectives submitted a warrant for his arrest, police said.

On Friday, April 7, Morton was taken to Bridgeport Superior Court, where he was arraigned and charged with murder, criminal attempt at murder, first-degree assault and weapons offenses.

It was Bridgeport’s sixth homicide of the year.

Detectives from the Bridgeport Police Department Robbery Squad also obtained a warrant for Morton's arrest in a separate robbery on March 17.

In that incident, Morton was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree threatening, criminal use of a firearm and third-degree larceny.

"This was a cooperative effort by homicide detectives and the robbery squad, and they worked diligently to quickly resolve both incidents," Bridgeport police spokesman Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said in a statement.
