At 6:30 p.m., Westport officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident, police said.
Officers determined that there were no injuries and began speaking with the drivers, police said. In speaking with Christopher Martens, one of the drivers, the investigating officer detected an odor of alcohol on his breath, his speech was slurred, and his eyes appeared bloodshot, police said.
Martens failed the field sobriety test and was placed under arrest, police said. When officers asked him to take the breath test at Police Headquarters, he refused, police said.
Martens was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.
Martens posted $500 bond and was issued a court date of Nov. 16 at Norwalk court, police said.
