WESTPORT, Conn. — Westport police were called to the Shelton Police Department on Friday to take custody of a man who ran out of the Stop & Shop in Westport with 12 four packs of Red Bull in August, police said.
According to the police report, 36-year-old Christopher Freer of Ansonia went into the Stop & Shop on the Post Road on Aug. 28 and attempted to steal the packs of energy drinks, valued at $120, police said.
A store employee who had been following Freer approached him, causing him to run out of the store and drop the merchandise in the parking lot before getting into a waiting car, police said.
Store surveillance footage helped police to identify Freer and arrest him, with the aid of the Shelton Police Department, police said.
Freer was charged with sixth-degree larceny. He posted $500 bond and is due at Norwalk Court on Dec. 14.
