In the latest thefts, troopers said two women's purses were stolen from two different vehicles parked in the same parking lot.

In both instances, the purses were left in plain sight, troopers said.

One car was unlocked, and the other had its window smashed so the thief could reach the purse.

Troopers are reminding residents that criminals are opportunists and it's every person's responsibility to protect their property and not be a target.

Not only should residents remember to lock their vehicle doors, but valuables should be kept out of sight.

"Sadly, criminals do their “'shopping'” in your unlocked vehicle or vehicles where they can see that valuables are easily accessible," state police said in a statement.

It only takes a minute, they added, to lock vehicles, hide all valuables and take the keys every time no matter where including at home.
