WESTPORT, Conn. -- After several months of investigation into home and car burglaries, a Bloomfield man is facing identify theft and conspiracy charges stemming from two Westport burglaries earlier this year, according to police.

Tony Jackson, 36, of Bloomfield, is being held since he wasn't able to post bond, police said. He was arrested and charged on two warrants: identity theft and conspiracy, and trafficking personal information and conspiracy.

Bond was set at $500 for the first warrant and $10,000 for the second, police said. He was arraigned Friday in Norwalk, police said.

The arrests come after Westport police investigations into car burglaries in May and July of this year.

On May 21, Westport police answered a call about a car burglary on Victoria Lane. The victim reported that his credit card and driver's license was taken from inside his car, police said.

The victim also reported unusual activity on his credit card at stores in Hamden shortly after the theft, police said.

Then, on July 16, Westport police got a call about a wallet being stolen from a car parked in the driveway on Sterling Drive. The wallet had two credit cards, a bank card and other items, police said.

Fraudulent activity on the credit cards was reported at various stores in Windsor, South Windsor, New Haven, and Hartford, according to police.

While each of the crimes were months apart, detectives determined that they were related to a group of people breaking into cars during this time, police said.

Information from similar crimes, others arrested and store surveillance led police to Jackson, police said. Detectives have also learned that stolen cards have been passed along to other people, according to police reports.

Westport police worked with counterparts in other departments, including New Canaan and Darien, to investigate a number of burglaries over the summer and into October. In several of these cases, the credit cards of the victims were used in New Haven and Hartford counties, police said.
