Bethel Man Charged With DUI After Westport Traffic Stop

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A 28-year-old Bethel man was charged with driving under the influence after Westport police stopped him Thursday and tests showed his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, police said.

Police said Walter Goodkind was driving at a high rate of speed when police spotted his car at about 1 a.m. Thursday on Allen Raymond Lane. After officers smelled alcohol on his breath, he failed the field sobriety test, police said.

While in custody, blood alcohol tests showed his level was more than twice the .08 legal limit, police said. His first test was .2276 and the second test was .2230, police said.

He was released from custody on the condition that he appear in Norwalk court on Jan. 24 to answer the charge.
