FAIRFIELD Conn. — Services have been set for William “Billy” Therriault, a seventh-grader at Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield who died Thursday, Sept. 14, due to complications from his lifelong fight against spinal muscular atrophy. He was 12.

He was born Dec. 27, 2004, the son of Katy Biscone and Scott Therriault.

"Although Billy was unable to walk and talk, he had the astounding ability to reach people in ways that spoke louder than words," according to his obituary.

Billy graduated from fifth grade at Dwight Elementary School in Fairfield and was a student at Roger Ludlowe Middle School.

He was an avid fan of Eli Manning and the New York Giants and was the honorary captain of the Fairfield Giants Pop Warner football team.

"Above all, Billy loved going to church and spending time in the presence of his loving family, friends, and nurses," his obituary said.

"He has made an indelible mark on his countless friends, teachers and caregivers," said Megan Tiley, principal at Roger Ludlowe Middle School. "Our condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of this extraordinary young man."

"Billy taught us to be patient and kind and to persevere through life's difficulties while enjoying each day," his obituary said. "He was a true hero to us all and touched every person that had the privilege of knowing him. Billy was able to live such a rich and rewarding life thanks to his devoted mother Katy, who displayed an unwavering commitment to her beloved little boy."

In addition to his mother, Katy Biscone, he is survived by his sisters, Alexandra and Ella Therriault; his grandparents Kathleen and John Biscone of Altamont N.Y., Thomas and Sharon Therriault of Saratoga Springs N.Y., and Sylvia and Charles James of Schenectady, N.Y.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Scott Therriault.

His family extend their deepest gratitude to his many teachers and caregivers for their dedicated service over the past 12 years, especially for his home care nurses who loved and cared for him daily as if he was their own.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fairfield Giants Football, attn.: Billy, P.O. Box 404, Fairfield, CT 06824.

Arrangements were handled by Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
