Services Set For Easton Firefighter Killed In Hurricane

EASTON, Conn. – A funeral service will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, for Easton firefighter Russell F. Neary, who was killed Monday in the line of duty during Hurricane Sandy. He was 55.

He was born July 8, 1957, in Bridgeport to the late John J. and Phyllis Neary. He spent his childhood in Easton and lived in Easton with his family at the time of his death. He attended Fairfield College Preparatory School and the College of Holy Cross, where he majored in accounting.

Neary was volunteer firefighter with Easton Fire Department for 13 years and was serving as president and lieutenant of the company.

Since 1979, he was vice president of the global ocean marine department at General Reinsurance in Stamford.

He is survived by his wife, Maryanne Faley Neary; two daughters, Cara and Caitlin; a brother, Peter (Judith) Neary; three brothers-in-law, John (Susan) Faley, Kevin Faley and Michael (Kathy) Faley; a sister-in-law, Eileen Faley (Jim) Carroll; his parents-in-law, John and Eileen Faley; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame of Easton Roman Catholic Church. Larson Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Russell Neary Memorial Trust Fund, 30 Far Horizon Drive, Easton, CT 06612, to benefit the Joel Barlow High School Girls Cross Country and Girls Track and Field Teams, as well as the American Red Cross.
