Lois S. Williams, 85, Former Westport Resident, Longtime Teacher

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Lois S. Williams of Valparaiso, a former Westport resident, died July 7. She was 85.

Williams was born July 17, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Everett and Helen Blake St. John. A longtime teacher, she taught mathematics from the elementary to college levels, including advancement math courses to sailors at the U.S. Submarine Base in Groton. She was valedictorian of the Staples High School class of 1944. She received a B.A. in mathematics with honors from Smith College in 1948 and earned a master’s in teaching from Connecticut College in 1968. After college, she worked at First Boston investment bank in New York.

Williams is survived by her daughter, Sybil Williams of Brookline, Mass.; son, Brian Williams of Valparaiso; daughters- in-law, Yukiko Takahashi of Yokosuka, Japan and Mary Kennedy of Valparaiso; two grandchildren; and extended family. She was predceased by her husband, Edwin E. Williams; parents; son, Seth Williams; stepmother, Mary Page St. John; and siblings, Mary Lyman St. John, Anne Wilbor Lunghino, and Thomas W. Wilbor Jr.

A memorial service for Lois and Ed will be held at a later time. Their ashes will be buried in Dover, Mass.
