Kathleen Lenihan, 60, Formerly of Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Kathleen F. Lenihan, a former Westport resident, died Aug. 11 after a six-year battle with melanoma. She was 60. 

A former public school teacher from Bridgeport, she is the mother of Daniel Roberti, a Democratic nomination candidate for Connecticut's fifth congressional district.

Lenihan was born Dec. 24, 1951, and raised in Ridgewood, N.J. She graduated from Fairfield University in 1973, among the first women to graduate from the previously all-male school. 

Called "Kate" by friends and family, she taught at Maplewood School in Bridgeport and was most recently of Kent. She previously lived in Bridgeport, Westport and Stamford. During the course of her last year, Lenihan enjoyed spending times with her sons, and especially her grandson, Vincent, at the family home in Kent. 

Her family said she continued to provide joy and inspiration in the lives of her children and grandson, even as she battled stage-four melanoma.  

Lenihan is survived by two sons, Vincent (Bronwyn) Roberti Jr. and Daniel Roberti; a grandson; and her former husband, Vincent A. Roberti Sr., all of Kent. She also is survived by two brothers, Brian Lenihan, of Westport, and Daniel Lenihan, of Ridgewood; four sisters, Patricia Folmar, of Winchester, Va., Christine Lenihan, of Alexandria, Va., Sheila Jordan, of Fairfax, Va., and Maureen Lenihan, of Haymarket, Va.; an aunt; and 13 nieces and nephews  

She was predeceased by her father, Dr. Thomas F. X. Lenihan, and her mother, Catherine Joan Lenihan.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Gabriel's Church in Saddle River, N.J. Burial will be in Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood. Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Chase Parkway Memorial Albini Family Funeral Home in Waterbury.
