Jean S. Holland, Formerly Of Westport, Pastel And Oil Portrait Artist

WALLINGFORD, Conn. - Jean Swint Holland of Wallingford, formerly of Westport, died Nov. 21. She was 88.

Holland was born Aug. 1, 1926, to Frederick and Stella (Combest) Swint in Paducah, Texas. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women's University) and worked as a fashion illustrator for Frost Brothers, a high fashion retailer, in San Antonio, Texas. She lived in Westport, Connecticut for 40 years and was a member of the Wilton Baptist Church. She and her husband were long time members of Brooklawn Country Club, Fairfield and The Hills at Lakeway, Austin, Texas. She was an artist specializing in pastel and oil portrait paintings. She studied under Charles Reid at Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan.

Holland is survived by her sister, Mary Margaret (Miggie) Maxey of Georgetown, Texas; sister-in-law, Juanita Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Dr. Henry Kent Holland (Eva) of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Sharon Holland Purtill (George) of Glastonbury; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry; brother, Elwin O. Swint; and sister, Fredda Swint Hill.

A graveside service will be held Nov. 28 at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. A Memorial Service celebrating Holland's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Ashlar Village (Auditorium A), Wallingford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Silvermine Arts Center, 1037 Silvermine Road, New Canaan or the American Heart Association.
