Tartaro was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Bristol, son of Joseph and Nancy Tartaro, he had been a Bridgeport resident for most of his life prior to moving to Westport nine years ago. A graduate of Warren Harding High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II onboard the USS Pocomoke in the Pacific. He was a retired machinist for the Remington Arms Company. He was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post 74 and a life member of VFW Post 9437. He was a past president and member of the DuPont-Remington pensioners club, a member of the Royal Arcanum and a longtime parishioner of Holy Rosary Church where he served as an usher.
Tartaro is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Nancy McMorrow (Stanley) of Norton, Mass., Anita Petriello of Phoenix, Ariz., and Loretta Sproul of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother, John Tartaro of Palm Coast, Fla.; five step-children; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pat Hull (Robert) of Fairfield and Anne Tartaro of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Evelyn Tartaro; and five siblings, Mary Tartaro, Dominick, Frederick, Joseph Tartaro and Rose Lapiccirella.
Calling hours are Sunday, Nov. 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. meeting directly at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield with the Rev. Guido Montanaro officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery of Easton.
