James R. Nugent, 93, Westport Resident

WESTPORT, Conn. – James R. “Nuge” Nugent, a lifelong resident of Westport, and husband of the late Doris J. Nugent, died Sunday, March 6 at the Carolton Convalescent Home in Fairfield. He was 93.

He was born in Westport on Oct. 16, 1922, the son of the late John and Anna (Gregory) Nugent. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during WWII and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post in Westport. He was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include one son, James J. Nugent, and his wife, Maryann, of South Royalton, Vermont; two daughters, Barbara O’Brien and her husband, Robert, of Exeter, Rhode Island, and Linda Smith and her husband, James, of Fairfield; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one brother, George Nugent; and one sister, Mary Couch.

Services will be private. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place, Westport, CT 06880.
