Cody Thomas, 27, Teacher At Staples High In Westport

STAMFORD, Conn. – Cody Randall Thomas, of Stamford, died Saturday, Jan. 23. He was 27.

He was born in Stamford on Jan. 8, 1989, to Matthew G. Thomas and Anna Colacurcio Thomas. He was an English teacher at Staples High School in Westport.

He was a musician, poet, writer, mentor and altruistic educator. He was a graduate of New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Institute of Journalism, and had a master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut. 

Before joining the staff at Staples High School, he was a writer for the Stamford Advocate and editor of the rock journal Revolver. As co-adviser with the Staples High School newspaper, Inklings, he helped bring students to the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Convention, where they received a gold medal award.

His love of music led him to study music at NYU and play in many local bands after graduation.

He also was an instructor for the Connecticut Writing Project at Fairfield University.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Callie-Rose Thomas; grandparents Vito and Rosa Ciminnelo Colacurcio of Stamford; his grandmother Janis W. Goodcuff of North Port, Fla.; his uncle Randall M. Thomas (Carolyn) and aunt Kathleen T. Giordano (Richard); his uncle Felice Colacurcio (Georgia), his cousins Annamaria Downey Gueco, and Sean and Liam Downy of Seattle; cousins Alex Giordano of Stamford, and Racquel, Veronica and Tiffani Colacurico of Stamford; and cousins Logan and Lena Thomas of Trumbull.

He was predeceased by his grandfather Louis J. Thomas and his aunts Tracy Thomas, and Callista C. Downey.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.
