Arnold Berke, 90, Former Longtime Westport Resident

REDDING, Conn. - Arnold Berke of Redding, former longtime Westport resident, died April 27. He was 90.

Berke was born Nov. 25, 1923, in New York, and grew up in Sea Cliff, Long Island. He was a private first class in World War II and saw action in the European Theater. He graduated from New York University and worked for many years at Standard Shares as the vice president, secretary of the New York office. He and his wife Marjorie moved to Westport in 1955. He was a long standing member of Cedar Point Yacht Club he was one of the Lighting sailors in the 60's and 70's. He was a member of the Y's Men of Westport/Weston, STAR, inc. of CT, and Meals on Wheels. He and Marjorie moved to Meadow Ridge in Redding, in 2011.

Berke  is survived by wife, Marjorie; children, George of Monroe, Gregory of Dix Hills, N.Y., and Debra Fitts of Delray, W.Va.; a granddaughter; sister, Regina Brauer of Westport; and two nieces and a nephew.

Services will be held on at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Unitarian Church of Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport, CT 06880, 203-227-7205.
