Where To Get Flu Shots In The Redding Area

REDDING, Conn. – Redding residents have three area locations where they can receive  flu vaccinations and possibly avoid an illness that is striking Connecticut with increased frequency this year.

The closest locations are the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association, 70 Stony Hill Road, Bethel; the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield; and Western Connecticut Home Care, 4 Liberty St., Danbury. Some local pharmacies are also administering flu shots.

Flu mist, which children prefer, is also available.

The number of influenza cases statewide was 1,676 as of Jan. 11, which exceeds the total of 1,083 for last year’s flu season, according to Redding Health Director Doug Hartline.

Asked why the case number is higher, Hartline said, “It’s unpredictable, but if it becomes severe we suggest social distancing [staying six to 10 feet away from those who are sick]".

Hartline said it’s not too late to get flu shots and that this year’s vaccine is effective. “The vaccine is made up of three strains of flu, and before the season starts they have to guess which strains we’ll experience. This year, it’s a good match.”

To make an appointment for a vaccination, call the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association at 203-938-3300, the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association at 203-792-0864 and Western Connecticut Home Care at 203-792-4120, ext. 3.
