What's Happening in Westport This Week

WESTPORT, Conn. – With school vacation this week, not many town meetings are scheduled. However, plenty of Spring Break activities are on tap at the Westport Weston Family Y, Earthplace and the Westport Historical Society. Here’s a look at what’s happening this week.

Monday, April 16

? 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Westport kids can find out for what children did for fun 100 years ago during a stay-cation program at the Westport Historical Society. The program begins today and runs through Thursday. The cost is $185 for members and $225 for nonmembers. Call 203-222-1424 to reserve your spot.

? 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.: All this week, Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane, is offering a variety of activities that are included with regular admission and free for members. Two programs, one at 10 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m., will be held each day. Visit Earthplace.org for a full schedule of events.

? The Westport Weston Family Y is offering three vacation programs for kids this week. Among the offerings is Splash Week, a 30-minute learn-to-swim program for kids 3 to 5 and another for ages 6 to 12. The cost is $10 for the week. There’s also a gymnastics program for kids ages 6 and up. The cost of this program is $165 for the week or $40 per day. Tuesday, April 17

? 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Earthplace, Westport’s nature discovery center, is hosting a two-day vacation drop-off program. Designed for kids from 3-and-a-half to first-graders will enjoy a science and art activity each day, as well as a trail walk and time on the playground. Snack is provided. Wednesday, April 18

? 12:30 p.m.: Meet the artists of the Westport Arts Center’s 2012 SOLOS exhibition and find out about their work during brown bag lunch discussions at the center, 51 Riverside Ave. This week’s featured artists are Ellen Hackl Fagan and Kraemer Sims Becker. ? 7:30 p.m.: The Representative Town Meeting Finance Committee and Transit District Committee are hosting a joint meeting. The agenda is available to view online.

Thursday, April 19

? 3 p.m.: Acclaimed Westport Artist Susan Malloy will be at the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., to sign copies of her new book, "A Young Person's Guide to Paris," which she wrote and illustrated. For more information, contact the center at 203-222-7070 or visit www.westportartscenter.org.

Friday, April 20

? 6 p.m.: Stop by the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., and meet new people during the ArtCafé Happy Hour. This art-themed happy hour is free and open to the public. Bring your own beverage.
