Westport Woman Charged With DUI in Dec. Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport resident Miriam Bernstein turned herself in to police on a warrant Friday charging her with drunken driving in a crash that occurred in December, police said.  

The accident happened on Center Street and West Parish Road. Police said Bernstein, 23, of Sturges Highway, smelled of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was transported to the hospital following the accident and officers applied for a warrant, police said.

In addition to operating under the influence, Bernstein was charged with traveling unreasonably fast and failure to drive right. She was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is due in court Monday.

Bridgeport resident Andre Martinez, 41, was arrested by police Monday on a warrant charging him in a September 2009 burglary of a home on Maple Avenue South, police said. Martinez was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny and was held on a $50,000 bond pending arraignment. An alleged accomplice in the burglary was arrested last week on the same charges.
