“For the past 30 years I have been preparing myself to be a key leader in the YMCA movement,” Riemersma said in a statement. “To have the opportunity to return to Connecticut as the CEO of this beautiful new Y is the most exciting opportunity of my professional life.”

Riemersma will begin her new role on Monday, June 8.

“I can’t wait to get started, to meet more staff and members and to get to know the community leaders through collaborative partnerships that will bring the mission of the YMCA to more families, children and seniors in Westport and Weston. It is an exciting moment in the Family YMCA’s rich history in this community.”

Bonnie Strittmatter, president of the board of directors, welcomed Riemersma to the Westport Weston Family YMCA.

“Pat Riemersma impressed us all with her decades of experience in leadership roles in the YMCA Movement around the country and with her vision to build on our Family YMCA’s foundation to ensure a secure and vibrant future for this center of community life and all the members we are proud to serve," Strittmatter said in a statement.

Riemersma has served at the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities in Minnesota since 2011. As vice president of youth development since 2013, she has provided leadership of the Twin Cities’ early learning and child care programs, which serve 5,900 children daily. She also supervises a team of 10 program directors of the association’s day camp programs, which served 23,400 youths in 2014.

She has been accountable for a combined operating budget of $34 million within the $112 million association.

Reimersma is an Iowa native and graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa. She began her career with the YMCA in 1984 as a Program Director at the Siouxland YMCA.

She was previously Vice President of Operations and Executive Director of the Northwest Family YMCA, both with the YMCA of Greater Saint Paul (1995-2011), as well as Program and Executive Director roles within the YMCA of Greater Hartford, from 1989 to 1994.
