Westport Library Unveils New Maker Space

WESTPORT, Conn. – Calling all makers: There’s a new addition to the Westport Library dedicated to fostering creativity. The new Maker Space, unveiled Monday, is a place where hands-on people can come together to bring ideas to life.

The space — the first installed at a library in the state — was inspired by the success of the Westport Mini Maker Faire held at the library in April. The event featured more than 50 hobbyists, scientists, artists and other creators who showcased and explained something they’ve made.

A variety of projects are planned to be conducted in the Maker Space. The first project, the construction of two 15-foot wooden airplanes, is already underway. People interested in taking part of these projects can sign liability waivers, available at the library. Volunteers are also sought to help manage the space.
