Weston's Friends of Lachat Receives Major Donation

WESTON, Conn. – Friends of Lachat has received a donation from a foundation established by Weston residents Anne and Travis Engen that will go towards the restoration of the Lachat farmhouse on Godfrey Road West.

"We have seen a tremendous show of support from our community for preserving the farmhouse. Almost every day we receive a check," said Carol Baldwin, director of Friends of Lachat. "With the Engen’s gift, reaching our goal really feels possible."

The amount of the donation was not released.

In December, the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation gave Friends of Lachat a $20,000 planning grant that wil go towards covering the costs of an architect, structural engineer, and landscape planner.

Historic restoration architect Robert Hatch has been advising Friends of Lachat and estimates the restoration costs to be approximately $255,000. So far, Friends of Lachat has received approximately $120,000 in cash, checks, grants and pledges.

As for the future of the Lachat property, the organization said it would like it be used as a town farm with a farm stand, fresh eggs, and community garden plots for rent.
