Weston Reviewing a Librarian Candidate

Weston could be one meeting away from hiring its next full-time library director. The Weston Board of Selectmen meets Thursday in closed session to discuss a potential candidate.

If the selectmen like what they see, it's possible that 35-year director Jane Atkinson will finally be able to step down. "I've been here forever," she said. "I don't mind staying on until they find someone."

At the request of the library board, the selectmen have not revealed the name of the candidate or any qualifications.

Tonight's agenda also includes a discussion of the annual town budget meeting and vote, which will take place in the spring. In Weston, all registered voters can say yea or nay on the budget, and town officials are still working through issues related to the decision last year to use voting machines instead of a hand vote.

The selectmen will also consider the fire department's proposal for an additional $16,000 for fire hoses and nozzles, and $9,000 to localize the town's computer servers. The town could save $27,000 during a three-year period if the server's are consolidated.

The meeting takes place on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room at town hall.
