Weston Memorial Day Fair Enjoyed by All

WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Memorial Day Fair is a community event in which residents don’t just attend the fair, they work it as volunteers.

Former Selectman Dan Gilbert attended the fair Saturday and plans to work it Monday, cooking at the food booth where hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausage and pepper sandwiches come off the grill.

“Many people here do a lot of things in town,” he said. “The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well.”

The Weston Garden Club set up a booth where local herbs grown at Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens in Westport were for sale.

Most of the activities at the fair were rides and games from Stewart Amusement of Trumbull. Children rode a wide variety of rides, from the carousel to the Zumur, the Cliff Hanger and the Dizzy Dragon.

Abby DellaValle, a 7-year-old from Westport, rode on the carousel with her younger brother. “It’s great,” said Abby's mother, Carrie DellaValle. “We’ve come every year since Abby was 2.”

The fair runs Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and Monday after the parade from noon to 5 p.m. at Hurlbutt Elementary School, 9 School Road, Weston.

A Memorial Day ceremony presented by the Weston Fire Department is scheduled for noon Monday at the fair, which raises funds for Hurlbutt Elementary and Weston Intermediate School.
