SUV Hits Woman in Crosswalk in Downtown Westport

A woman was hit by an SUV on Tuesday morning as she was crossing Post Road East in downtown Westport near Starbucks.

At about 9:30 a.m., Westport police received a 911 call that a pedestrian had been hit by a car at Post Road East and Parker Harding Plaza. According to reports, the woman was in the designated crosswalk when the SUV turned left out of Parker Harding Plaza and hit her.

The woman was taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident was under investigation by the Westport Police Department Patrol Division. No charges had been filed.

On Dec. 21, Westport resident Sharon Broecking, 62, was fatally struck by a car as she crossed Post Road East at Westfair Drive. Broecking was in the designated crosswalk when she was hit. On Dec. 11, Stamford resident Ira Leonard Eisner was hit by a car as he crossed Post Road East near Restoration Hardware. Eisner, 93, died two weeks later from his injuries. He reportedly was not in the crosswalk at the time he was hit.
