GREENWICH, Conn. -- Stephan Seeger, a defense attorney for Michael Skakel, has filed a motion to preserve evidence leading up to the Kennedy cousin's retrial for the 1975 murder of of Martha Moxley in Greenwich, according to thehour.com.
Seeger, who worked on Skakel's first murder trial, is looking to preserve two hairs, one from an African-American male and one from an Asian male, that were found on the blankets used when Moxley's body was moved from the crime scene, thehour.com reported.
A state judge set aside Skakel's original murder conviction in October 2013 due to the ineffectiveness of his original defense lawyer.
Skakel was convicted in 2002 of the murder and had served half of his 20 years to life sentence when the retrial was ordered.
Skakel is accused of beating Moxley, his neighbor, to death with a six-iron golf club in her family's backyard when both were teenagers.
