Merritt Service Plaza In Fairfield To Reopen Friday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – One of Fairfield’s Merritt Parkway service plazas will reopen Friday at noon.

The service station, between exits 44 and 46 on the Merritt, has been under renovation under a state Department of Transportation program. The plaza on the northbound side will reopen Friday. The southbound side’s plaza will stay closed for another few months.

The plaza has a Mobil gas station and a convenience store with food, drinks and restrooms. The station also has full generator capabilities, so it can stay open even if power in surrounding neighborhoods goes out.

Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a press release that the station’s re-opening will provide another outlet for storm relief for Fairfield-area residents.

“It is important that we make as many fueling locations available as we can, especially in Southwestern Connecticut, which sustained back-to-back hits from these two storms,” Malloy said.
