Man Dies in Weekend Crash

The driver of a car that crashed into a wall on Cross Highway died. Anthony DiMatteo, 79, of Shelton suffered a heart attack that caused him to lose control of his vehicle according to published reports.

When police and fire arrived on the scene, EMS personnel were already performing CPR on DiMatteo. The police report stated he was in a state of cardiac arrest. His wife of 51-years, Adeline "Lena" Nicoletti DiMatteo suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Norwalk Hospital.

According to DiMatteo's obituary, he was the founder of DiMatteo Insurance, now run by his children and celebrating its 50th year. Before starting his insurance business he was a football coach at the University of Bridgeport and Notre Dame High School. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
