EASTON, Conn. The owner of Pee Wee Horse Farm in Easton has signed over custody to the state of five horses seized from his farm last month, according to Dr. Bruce Sherman of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
Paul Vittorio, owner of the Sport Hill Road horse farm, went before a judge in Hartford on Tuesday as part of a civil proceeding brought by the state.
In December, state Animal Control Officers seized the horses because of suspected animal cruelty. According to court documents, the horses were emaciated, sickly and malnourished.
The animals are now being boarded in a barn at the York Correctional Facility in Niantic, where prisoners are taking care of them under state supervision.
I havent heard anything other than that they are being fed and care for, Sherman said.
The animals' care is being paid for by the Animal Abuse Cost Recovery Account, which is made up solely of donations. Donations can be made by check to the Animal Abuse Cost Recovery Account, Department of Agriculture, 165 Capital Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
