Developers Seek Feedback in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Whether you've got questions or complaints on the proposed redevelopment of the Westport Weston Family Y property and the adjacent property at 35 Church Lane, let your voice be heard Wednesday night.

Bedford Square Associates, which owns both, hopes to combine the two properties to create a mixed-use development. It presented a proposal to rezone the property at 35 Church Lane to the Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 20. The proposal sparked outrage among several residents who said such a change would threaten the town's character.

The partners of Bedford Square Associates, with Mark Herter and Jeff Riley from Centerbrook Architects, are hosting a question-and-answer roundtable discussion Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

"The purpose of the meeting is to help clear up any misperceptions and fears about the project, discuss the projects preliminary design ideas and listen to the communities questions," Bedford Square partners Dan Zelson, Paul Brandes, Lance Sauerteig and David Waldman said in a statement.

"Bedford Square, in its redevelopment of the properties, is attempting to design a project which will benefit the community, bring evening activity to the downtown, add restaurants and retail along Church Lane, provide additional onsite parking, create public outdoor spaces and connections, add tax revenue to the grand list and create residential units where very few exist."

The discussion will be held in the Bedford Room at the Y, at 59 Post Road E. Refreshments will be served.
