The popular Republican mayor known for his social media savvy turned to the airwaves Thursday to make the pitch for Danbury with an appearance on the Fox Business program “Mornings With Maria.”

Boughton appeared on the show with G.T. Bynum, the mayor of Tulsa, Okla., which also made a long-shot bid for the Amazon HQ2 and its 50,000 jobs.

Neither of the medium-size cities directly match the requirements set forth by Amazon — a metro area with a 1 million population — but that didn't stop them from bidding.

Boughton pushed this regional approach that Danbury is leveraging.

“You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take, so we are going to take our shot,” he said “The economic spinoff and derivative will be incredible, and transform Connecticut."

Boughton said Danbury wants those 50,000 jobs and the $5 billion investment. "We were once the Hat City and now we're a multi-corporation community," he said.

"We're a dark horse candidate, there's no question about that," Boughton said. "But we think we're a player in this and we're gonna take a shot at this."

Bartiromo also showed and enjoyed the video made by the City of Danbury, in which Alexa says Amazon’s second world headquarters should be in Danbury.

Boughton also talked about his possible run for governor in 2018 and his plan to eliminate the state income tax.

Today is the deadline to apply for the Amazon second headquarters. Over 300 cities in North America applied.
