McDowell is the Executive Director of Earthplace, the Nature Discovery and Environmental Learning Center in Westport. He will discuss environmental sustainability.
He joined Earthplace in the fall of 2013 after a career in marketing and strategy for forest products companies where environmental sustainability was a key component of success.
Throughout his business career, he has been active in nonprofit organizations. He was a founding board member of Stepping Stones Museum for Children and also served on the board of the Child Guidance Center of Southern CT, the American Institute of Graphic Arts and Northeast Community Church. He is currently a member of the Westport Rotary.
A South Norwalk native and Westport resident of many years, he enjoys all outdoor activities including hiking, biking and sailing on the Sound.
The Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of about 415 retired and semi-retired men. The Y's Men participate in a wide variety of activities such as golf, bowling, photography, tennis, skiing, bridge, chess, singing, investments, sailing, hiking, and table tennis.
The organization also provides volunteers for numerous community programs such as providing transportation to medical services for the frail and elderly, delivering Meals on Wheels to the needy, assisting at Norwalk Hospital and providing manpower at parades, foot races and other Westport and Weston events.
