Westport Letter: Marpe, Kaner Achieve Real Accomplishments

WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Send letters to westport@dailyvoice.com.

To The Editor:

I have lived in Westport for 14 years and am proud to call it my home. We have great schools and beaches and a strong sense of community. It takes leadership and vision to keep Westport among one of the nicest towns in the country. Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner have this leadership and the experience necessary to build an even stronger and better Westport. Jim and Avi are both successful businessmen who understand the challenges Westport faces and have the know-how to get things done.

Under Jim’s leadership on the Board of Education, Westport schools were among the best in the state. Staples High School recently received the National Blue Ribbon Award from the U. S. Secretary of Education. This was achieved while incurring the lowest school budget increases in over a decade.

As the Chairman of the Finance and Pension Boards, Avi developed consensus among Democrats and Republicans to make real reforms. Under Avi’s leadership, Westport made real and substantial progress in solving our underfunded pension problems. Please join me in voting for the Marpe/Kaner team for leadership that is thoughtful and capable.
