The seven awards were presented by First Selectman James S. Marpe, Historic District Commission Chair Francis Henkels, and commission members at a recent ceremony.
Owners Jennifer and A. Morris Tooker won a Preservation award for their work on their home at 56 Sylvan Road North, which dates back to 1790. In the six years the Tookers have owned the property, they've added a mudroom and breakfast room using as many materials from the period as possible.
Other Preservation Award winners included Jennifer and Eric Sydor for their work on 59 Roseville Road and Lynne and Stephen Goldstein for work done at 97 Hillspoint Road. Both sets of homeowners earned their awards by restoring their homes to their original 1860s style.
John Koren earned a Restoration award for the work he did at 111 Kings Highway N. Dating to 1911, the house was in disrepair when Koren purchased it in 2013. After a year of work, the house is back to its original style, down to the original shingles.
Frank Donaldson earned a Barlow Cutler-Wotton Award for Architecture for the work done at 6 Blind Brook Road. With architect Jim Jamieson's help, the house was expanded from three bedrooms to six without losing any of its original design.
Grayson Braun and Jamie Walsh won a Helen Muller Preservation Award for their ongoing treatment of their home at 3 Gorham Avenue. They founded the Gorham Avenue Local Historic District in 2008.
Real estate developer David Waldman earned an Adaptive Reuse award for his reconstruction work on the 90-year old property at 44 Church Lane. Waldman and his architect created a refined version of the structure's original style, making it attractive for the property's new tenant.
