WESTON, Conn. In less than 24 hours after The Daily Weston ran a story about the desperate need for pet food at the Weston Community Food Pantry, readers stepped up to the plate and have already donated dozens of supplies and more than 200 pounds of food.
I am overwhelmed at the generosity of our community as I know in my heart what a difference this will make to some of my families that use the pantry, said Betsy Peyreigne, co-director of the pantry.
As of late Friday morning, she said, the pantry has received five bags of dry dog food (totaling nearly 120 pounds), eight bags of dry cat food (totaling more than 60 pounds), three boxes of dog biscuits, 84 cans of dog food and 48 cans of cat food.
The smiles that will result of having pet food in stock today will make all the difference in the world to our neighbors in need and their furry family members, Peyreigne said Friday.
Although pet food donations are piling in this morning, there is a constant need at the pantry since it helps over 100 Weston families. Of those 100-plus families, Peyreigne said, there are nearly 35 cats and about 15 dogs in need of food.
Donations can be dropped off at the food pantry on Norfield Road, in the same parking lot as EMS and the fire station. Residents can make monetary donations as well. Checks can be made out to the Community Food Pantry Inc. For more information, please email Peyreigne at betsy.peyreigne@gmail.com.
